Police Dispatch Supervisor

|Description:||Provides supervision, training, and direction to assigned personnel to ensure that Police and other emergency services are notified of community needs in a timely and accurate manner and that effective administrative support is provided to the Police Department to ensure smooth ongoing operations. |
Supervises non-exempt Dispatchers. Exercises moderate levels of independent judgment and initiative. Is vested with decision-making latitude within parameters prescribed by the department's policies, procedures, and guidelines. Interfaces frequently with the general public; state, federal, and county law enforcement agencies; municipal court personnel, police departments of other municipalities; and department personnel. Involved in community policing.
|Duties:||1. Supervise, train and direct assigned Dispatchers: assign and review work; schedule work hours, including overtime hours; train personnel; complete performance evaluations; make recommendations regarding hiring and terminating employment; administer disciplinary action, including reprimanding and suspending personnel as required.|
2. Validate and track stolen property, wanted/missing persons, etc., in the National Crime Information Center Computer.
3. Maintain and update department manuals as requested by management, including the department's Policy and Procedure Manual; recommend new policies or modifications to existing policies as appropriate.
4. Perform any or all duties of a Dispatcher, as needed to ensure smooth operations; respond to call-backs to fill dispatcher opening/shortage.
5. Prepare and submit reports regarding Dispatcher activities as requested by management: review logs and reports prepared by Dispatchers to ensure accuracy and conformance to department procedures.
6. Serve as a member of the Hiring Board for civilian and sworn personnel.
7. Obtain and maintain in-service training and certification levels as required by the department, TCLEOSE, TCIC/NCIC.
|Qualifications:||Comprehensive working knowledge of all departmental policies, Communications/Central Records policies, procedures, and practices; general office procedures; City ordinances and state and federal laws.|
Sound working knowledge of general management/ leadership principles and demonstrated ability to supervise assigned personnel effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain professionally effective working relationships with municipal court personnel, co-workers, other law enforcement personnel, EMS and fire personnel, the general public, and representatives of state, federal, and local government agencies.
Ability to quickly establish priorities and work calmly under stressful conditions.
Monitor and ensure the holding facility for safety of inmates and employees. Ensure security and humane treatment of inmates. May assist officers in frisk and searches of inmates.
Good communication (verbal and written), analytical, and organizational skills and the ability to understand and relay detailed written and verbal operating procedures and instructions.
Ability to effectively operate radio and other communication devices, computer and related department software, and typical office equipment, such as typewriters, calculators, copies, cameras, and fax machines.
High school diploma or equivalent.
2+ year�s experience as a line dispatcher, or, any combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Successful completion of supervisory training.
40+ hours of Certified Communications Training from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education.
Tele-communicator�s Acknowledgment Certificate.
