Development Services Intern - Part-time

Description:Support Planning Department Staff in review, research, collection, and archiving of development activities.

Primary responsibilities include research information pertaining to spatial data to include construction drawings, case files and related documents and field verification and documentation of infrastructure specified by the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) construction requirements. Where applicable, documents will be digitally archived and referenced in GIS. Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, cartographic assignments, data creation and site inspections. Secondary responsibilities include assisting with the review of platting, zoning and site plan applications. Provide research and graphic support for various reports including demographics or special studies. The position is expected to carry out all responsibilities in accordance with established City/departmental policies and procedures. Frequent interaction with City staff and the public is also a critical aspect of the position.

Position is limited to 2 to 5 days a week for an academic semester, not to exceed 19 hours per week. Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Duties:1. Gather and verify field information data for GIS projects.

2. Provide mapping and related documentation of assigned projects.

3. Provide assistance reviewing plats, zoning applications and site plan inspection.

4. Assist with research and graphics related to demographics and other various planning studies and reports.

5. Provide internal customer support.

6. Scan and archive hardcopy information.
Qualifications:Required:
Currently enrolled in college or recently graduated. Degree plan in Geography, Urban Planning or related field.

Preferred:
Completion of GIS courses
Prior or currently enrolled in planning related courses

Experience with ESRI desktop applications.

Basic cartographic skills.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as customer service skills.
